Bridgend County Borough Council have set up a new Take Up Team to help people know what benefits they are entitled to. The Team are attending community events to promote the new service to help make sure that people who qualify claim what is rightfully theirs. Read on for further information....
If you are struggling with paying your rent or feel you are paying too much Council Tax and you have less than £16,000 savings then you could qualify for help towards your rent, Council Tax or BOTH!
The Take Up Team, Chris and Nicola, can check to see if you would be entitled and if so they will take you through the process of claiming Housing and Council Tax Benefit efficiently, professionally and discreetly. Chris and Nicola can visit you in your home if you wish, or can make an appointment for you to see them at Civic Offices in Angel Street, Bridgend.
If you receive Income Support, Income Based Jobseekers Allowance or Pension Credit Guarantee Credit and live in a rented housing association property they will pay all your eligible rent and all of your Council Tax. You can still claim help with rent and Council Tax if you rent privately and you can claim help with Council Tax if you own your home. Visit the Council's website for more details.

The other type of benefit is the Second Adult Rebate which is not related to your savings and income but may apply if you are responsible for paying Council Tax and have one or more people living with you who have a low income.
If you are entitled to Housing and/or Council Tax Benefit you may also be eligible for up to £3000 in energy grants. Examples include cavity wall and loft insulation and grants for replacing inefficient boilers. Call the Energy Saving Trust on 0800 512012 for further details.
