The Story Behind the CIS Website.
Bridgend Children's Information Service launched its new website in July. Parents and childcare providers are now able to get up-to-date information about childcare provision and support 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
The Children's Information Service team has been trying to set up an independent website for Bridgend CIS for more than two years. Until recently the cost of providing the content-rich website that the clients need has been beyond the available budget. Now, by taking advantage of recent developments in web technology and the development of "open source" software, the price of a website that can be managed by the CIS team has come within reach. Open source software means that there are no license fees to pay so once the website is set up there are no further external costs.
The website is an exciting step forward; allowing parents and providers to access the information we provide when it suits them. Our website will also provide a chance for providers to share their views and ideas surrounding current topics. While parents can access activity ideas for the children and be linked to other useful websites.
